The Ginger Man’s Turkey Sandwich

Turkey Sandwich

While living in Austin, I stumbled across this amazing sandwich at one of my favorite watering holes, The Ginger Man.

The Ginger Man is the kind of pub where they only serve beer, but they have about 200 different kinds. A dark and rustic atmosphere, people playing darts and the sound of Bob Schneider wafting out of the jukebox is what you’d find there.

Then there’s this sandwich. The turkey sandwich with cranbery sauce and apple curry mayo. It’s pretty much the main reason for visiting this locale. All that awesome beer really is just there to wash it down.

Although I do not have the recipe for the Turkey Sandwich at The Ginger Man, this is a very close replica.

Ingredients: {to make four sandwiches}
4 focaccia buns {or a large focaccia round cut into fourths}, toasted {I couldn’t find focaccia, so I used ciabatta buns}
1 lb sliced turkey deli meat {get it from the deli, not the pre-packaged section}
4 Tablespoons canned cranberry sauce
Apple Curry Mayo {recipe below}, about 2 Tablespoons per sandwich
1 Tablespoon butter

In a sauté pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the turkey and toss around to ensure the butter gets distributed. Saute for a couple of minutes just to warm the turkey. Spread the apple curry mayo on each bottom half of the focaccia bread the cranberry sauce on each top half of the bread. Distribute the turkey amongst the sandwiches. Enjoy with your favorite beer!

Apple Curry Mayo

About 1/2 cup tart apple {such as a Granny Smith}, diced
1/2 cup real mayonnaise
1 teaspoon curry powder

Combine all ingredients and mix well.
